TMS, or Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, is a treatment for clients who have been suffering from depression for a long time and who did not benefit from medications. Our  office in Queens offers TMS with Neurostar Technology.

You can read and learn more about this technology and what to expect in TMS treatment here https://neurostar.com/.

What is Neuronetics NeuroStar?

NeuroStar uses transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to target key areas of the brain that are underactive in people with depression.

It is not ECT (electroconvulsive therapy).

While the exact causes of depression are not known, the leading scientific theory is that it is caused by an imbalance in the brain’s neurotransmitters, which are chemical messengers that send signals between brain cells.

What is NeuroStar Advanced Technology for TMS?

We offer TMS therapy in NYC with NeuroStar technology. During a NeuroStar treatment session, a magnet similar in strength to that used in a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine, is used to stimulate nerve cells in the areas of the brain that control the mood.

The magnetic pulses you’ll receive in TMS sessions may have a positive effect on the brain’s neurotransmitter levels, making long-term remission possible.

With more than one million sessions performed, this treatment method for achieving remission from severe depression is bringing new hope to people every day.

How Does Neurostar TMS Work?

Neurostar TMS is a highly effective treatment for depression. It works by using focused magnetic pulses to stimulate specific areas of the brain that are associated with low activity, which can cause depression. The magnetic pulses function to reactivate brain activity, restore neurotransmitter signaling, and restore inter-regional communication in the brain.

Does Neurostar TMS hurt?

The patient is constantly awake and aware during this outpatient process, which doesn’t entail any surgery, anesthesia, or sedation. When the device contacts your head during treatment, you can experience some slight discomfort, but this usually goes away over the first week. During your session, watch TV, or interact with your TMS treater. You can also drive home right away following treatment.
